I'm Jennifer Henion
After sailing through Junior Hunter titles with my first two dogs, the next level was calling my name.
But I quickly hit a wall as I tried to teach my Golden Retriever "Flyer" to take the water for marks when it was so much easier and faster to run around it! Plus, the next levels require your dog to take specific angles across water and actually swim along stretches of shoreline for water blinds, instead of running the bank.
Trying to communicate this to Flyer was so frustrating. It felt impossible with positive training!
It was this very challenge that led me to get certified at Karen Pryor Academy as a professional. And luckily, I also found Susan Garrett, a multi time national champion in dog agility who had mastered the art of turning training into games!
All of that new knowledge helped me look at water training with a totally different eye. And I quickly developed a step by step process to shape, grow and proof the performance of water honesty for marks and blinds using positive reinforcement training!
My current dogs Reggie 7, and Harry 1.5, two Golden Retrievers with two totally different personalities have thrived on this approach! Reggie proved himself with an FT Qualifying riboon, an AKC Master pass and successfully performing all 6 series of the Master National at the age of 5. Pretty demaning water blinds there!
And young Harry is miles ahead of where Reggie was at twice his age, due to early exposure to this system!
